Colloquium: Imagination in Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences
Hosted by Richmond University, London, England
James Morley (Convener)
July 22-23, 2002
Imagination is a topic explored by both phenomenologists and cognitive scientists. This colloquium aims to bring together researchers from all relevant disciplines to dialogue on the cognitive and phenomenological processes involved in imaginative acts.
Practical information:
Richmond College is located on the site of an early Victorian seminary next to the vast Richmond Deer park. The village of Richmond is perhaps the most beautiful part of London as it overlooks the cow meadows of the upper Thames and is filled with very quaint (as Americans say) or twee (as British say) tea shops and pubs.
Following past practice, funding will be the responsibility of the individual participants. To enhance the intimate work group atmosphere of the meeting, all participants are asked to use the rustic dormitory accommodations and share meals together. Breakfast and lunch will be included in the dormitory registration. Dinners will be held at local restaurants. A Thames boat ride may be organized if there is sufficient interest. You may be aware that London is fast becoming the most expensive city on Earth. But we have made great efforts to provide the most inexpensive accommodation possible. To assist in our efforts to keep administrative costs down and to promote conference continuity we ask participants to enroll in the whole all-inclusive package.

NOTE: Credit card payments are possible. Please call 44-20-8332-8223 and ask to speak to 'Kathryn Simmonds of the Richmond University accounts office. ' She will take your credit card details.
Because of limited space, registration must, unfortunately, follow a first come first served basis. To ensure reservation at this very inexpensive rate of accommodation, we urge participants to post their checks or money orders as soon as possible. Otherwise, the only other alternative will be London Hotel fees at peak season. Also, Please indicate interest in a Conference Boat ride.
Travel and Directions
Because of high volume, London air rates tend to be inexpensive. British Air is a good Airline, but Internet deals abound -- even at peak season! Directions to Richmond can be discerned from a glance at any Underground map.
From Heathrow take the Piccadilly Line to Turnham Green. Then, take the District line to Richmond Station (£3 one way). Then, take a (£4) cab to "Richmond College at the top of Richmond Hill." The main entrance is easily visible.
Phone number of switchboard and security in case one gets lost: 8332-8200.
Anyone there on Sunday is welcome to meet for dinner and drinks, between 8-10pm, at the Lass of Richmond Pub across from the main entrance on Queens Road.
